Had to go to a few houses which had been burgled this week. Certainly more than normal. I always advise customers to have sash jammers fitted to their upvc doors. A really good, cheap way of adding extra security to your upvc door and they work. (I have a picture of them on our upvc problems page. Click here to see). I always remember a policeman, at one house where I was fitting them, telling me that he thought every house should have them. Good security, but really easy to open in the case of a fire. Very much like a bolt on a wooden door. Well I've got them and my Mum's got them, so that tells you something!
Another thing I always tell customers is to use their mortice (chubb) lock. It's amazing how many people don't bother! I went to another burglary this week, in Four Oaks, where they'd just kicked this poor man's front door in, on his flat. We had to replace the whole door and frame. It was the second time they had broken in this month! I expect he'll always use his locks from now on, but to be honest, it's all a bit late now.
So once again I say, it's alright having proper, insurance graded BS3621 locks on your door, but you must use them!
