I've replaced broken Upvc door locks and mechanisms all over Birmingham this week, in Sutton Coldfield, Hall Green, Solihull and in Lichfield.
To be honest these Upvc locking mechanisms are well known for breaking all of the time, but there are often ways of preventing then from breaking in the first place.
The main problem is that, as people's doors get harder and stiffer to lock, they just ignore it. They then continue to ignore it until the mechanism finally breaks and the door either doesn't lock, or doesn't open!
If you feel that your upvc door is getting difficult to lock, you should call us out. Trust me, it's cheaper to adjust than it is to replace.
What often happens is that there is movement in the door, whether it has bowed, dropped or whatever. This stops the bolts, hooks or rollers from going into the keeps on the frame side correctly. This then means that you need more force, to literally force the bolts etc into the keeps. This in turn puts a lot more pressure on the working parts and results in part of the gearbox in the mechanism breaking.
The result of this, to you, the customer, is a door with a lock which no longer works! Check out our Upvc Door Lock Problems page

So if you feel that your Upvc door lock is not working properly, call us sooner rather than later. Prevention is better than cure.
