Seemed to be fitting quite a lot of extra security to upvc doors in Kings Heath, Birmingham, this week. I had a euro cylinder to open and replace in Kings Heath, then ended up fitting sash jammers on the next door neighbour's upvc doors. Then I was straight round the corner to fit more sash jammers to a house I'd been to before, where the customer had decided to have them fitted to her other doors.
I had an enjoyable job, fitting new mortice locks on internal doors in Solihull. They took ages to fit! I thought they'd be really quick, most internal doors are basically hollow, flush doors. But as soon as I arrived I saw that they were hardwood, oak veneered doors. I got through some battery power fitting them!
To be honest, I always prefer working with quality materials like that though. Although it's harder work, it tends to be more rewarding! It must be the ex chippie in me. I'm actually a fully qualified carpenter, aswell as a locksmith. I think this often tends to come in very handy in my job and in fact, often wonder how a lot of these new start ups coming into the locksmith industry, with no carpentry or metalwork skills, actually cope and get by. Though looking at some of the "locksmith" jobs I've been to, to put right, they don't...!
