I thought today it would be quite interesting to give you a breakdown of a typical "day in the life" of a locksmith. So here's a run down of one of my days this week.
7.40am. Start of the day. Go round to a house in Sutton Coldfield to pick up keys for a change of locks.
8.30am. Replace a euro lock in Hall Green.
9.45am. Replace a broken pvc door mechanism and euro cylinder in Willenhall.
11.30am. Replace an insurance graded BS3621 mortice lock and rim cylinder (Yale lock and Chubb lock) in Kings Heath, Birmingham. The customer had had a set of keys stolen.
1.30pm. Replace a broken mortice latch on an external door in Monkspath, Solihull.
2.30pm. Replace BS3621 Chubb lock on a front door in Erdington, Birmingham.
4.00pm. Replace a broken bathroomdoor lock in Sutton Coldfield.
5.00pm. Replace a broken handle, euro cylinder and fit "push locks" to an aluminium sliding patio door and replace a BS3621 lock and Yale lock in Sutton Coldfield. The customer had had their handle and euro lock snapped off the night before, on their sliding patio door. The burglars had then stolen their car keys. All whilst the customers were in bed! This is becoming more and more common. Anti-snap euro locks and push locks should prevent thishappening again.
7.30pm. Pick a mortice lock on an internal door in Little Aston, Sutton Coldfield.
8.00pm. Finish.
