Well, this is the first blog of 2009, so the first thing to say is that I hope you all had a wonderfull Christmas. We had a great time (my little boy Oliver was really excited and it was my little girl Millie's first one) but I didn't get much time off. I gave myself Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off and worked on all the other days!
Anyway January is here and I'm run off my feet already. Well I was, until on Tuesday the clutch went on the van. It was a typically busy day. I had opened up a broken garage door lock in Sutton Coldfield, had replaced a couple of euro cylinders in Kings Heath, I then adjusted a couple of upvc door mechanisms in Kings Norton and Rubery, then went over to Bloxwich to replace a broken sliding patio door lock and then all of a sudden, the clutch failed and I had to be towed back to Sutton Coldfield. Not the best start for 2009!
Every garage I spoke to was telling me it would be the next week before they could even look at it. I must say though, I took it to Bassetts Pole Garage and they really did me a favour, they got me back on the road the next day! I can't say how pleased with them I was. In a job like mine, Mobile Locksmith, every day without a van is costing you money, so it really was a relief to be mobile again.
It did mean however, that I had to work for 16 hours the next day to catch up. I had two Yale nightlatches and a BS3621 Chubb lock to fit in Moseley, a mortice lock to open and replace in Quinton, a euro lock to replace and adjust the pvc door in Hampton in Arden, another euro lock to replace in Balsall Common, an antique brass designer door handle to fit in Four Oaks and another job in Sutton Coldfield.
The job in Sutton Coldfield was quite a fun one. Unfortunately the customers had been broken into over Christmas and were upping their security. I fitted push locks to their sliding patio door, new bolts on their garage door, an internal mortice (chubb type) lock, an external BS3621 (insurance graded) mortice lock and put sash jammers on all of the upvc doors. I laso replaced their euro cylinders on the upvc doors for Anti-Snap, Bump Resistant cylinders. These really are fantastic. The problem with burglars forcing handles and snapping off the cylinders to get in on upvc doors seems to be becoming more and more common. These snap safe cylinders stop them getting at the working parts of the door, even if they do snap them off, thereby stopping them from getting in. Coupled with sash jammers to keep the door held shut from inside, these really are a must have for anyone with a upvc door. That's what I've got on my door anyway!
Well, it just remains for me to wish you all the best for the New Year and I hope you all have a happy and prosperous 2009.
